Assistant Supervisor Job Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION:

To assist the Albany County Weed and Pest Control District in the control of designated and declared noxious weeds and pests as established by the Department of Agriculture and Weed and Pest Council while complying with all state and federal laws.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Exercise direct supervision over seasonal summer workers. Receive direction from the Director/Supervisor of the Weed and Pest District.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Select and mix pesticides; apply pesticides while following all labeling and safety precautions; store chemicals neatly and organized.
    1. Supervise, train, and work with the summer spraying crew to insure all rules, regulations, and instructions are properly followed; instruct and train personnel in the proper use of equipment, pesticides, application techniques, and work methods; ensure safety of all employees through proper education and supervision.
    2. Inspect, repair, and maintain all equipment to ensure safety and efficiency for seasonal spraying program. Build new equipment as needed.
    3. Meet with ranchers and land owners/managers as needed to provide information in arranging effective noxious weed control plans.
    4. Inform Supervisor of any employee injuries, vehicle accidents, pesticide spills or environmental damages, personnel issues, and malfunctioning or damaged equipment.
    5. Work with Supervisor on planning and scheduling weed treatment projects, mapping, biocontrol, and trainings; discuss potential projects, improvements, and work needs.
    6. Follow specific guidelines for safety or operations as presented by government entities or private individuals (safety gear, permits).
    7. Fill out records for pesticide applications and sales of pesticides, parts, and other items.
    8. Utilize computer programs for recording pesticide applications, sales, mapping information, biocontrol information, and other information.
    9. Inspect and certify fields for noxious weed seed free hay and mulch program.
    10. Work positively, cooperatively, and efficiently with the public as well as other employees.
    11. Communicate with the public through literature reports, newsletters, meetings, and seminars to ensure the public has information on weed and pest control activities and their importance.
    12. Provide building maintenance and repairs as needed; help keep shop and office area clean and organized as appropriate.
    13. Attend and participate in meetings and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase knowledge; serve on committees as assigned.
